About Me

James Richey is a lifelong resident of Scottsburg, Indiana, where he was born and raised. A proud Republican and Christian, James has dedicated his life to serving his community through public safety, leadership, and local government.

Together with his wife, Lauren Richey, James has raised three children while remaining deeply involved in the community they call home.

James has served the citizens of Scottsburg through the Scottsburg Fire Department for 27 years, including the last 20 years as Fire Chief. Throughout his career, he has focused on strengthening emergency services, supporting firefighters, and ensuring the safety and preparedness of the community.

His leadership extends beyond Scottsburg. James served 15 years as President of the Scott County Fire Chiefs Association and has spent more than a decade on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association, including the past three years on the executive board. He currently serves as Vice President of the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association and is set to serve as President next year.

In addition to his public safety leadership, James also serves his community through local government. He is currently in his second year on the Scott County Council and serves as Vice President of the council.

Beyond these roles, James also serves on numerous other community boards and committees, continuing to contribute his time and experience to improving the community and supporting public service initiatives throughout Scott County.

Through decades of service, James Richey has remained committed to faith, family, and the continued growth, safety, and success of the community he has always called home.
